Reclaiming Eve, Our Mythic Mother:
The Truth About Our Origin Story

Who has Eve been in your mythic imagination? How can we reclaim Eve’s pre-patriarchal legacy as the life-giving Mother of all Living before patriarchy framed and blamed her as the source of evil in the world and built civilization on the backs of a man-made hierarchy of conquest and oppression which has harmed us all? How might reclaiming Eve as our Mythic Mother elevate how women and girls are valued in society and restore our interconnectedness as a human family with the Web of Life which is our home?

In this Month of the Mother, join us to honor and re-imagine Eve, the Mother of all Living (חַוָּה Chavah in Hebrew), and reclaim her pre-patriarchal legacy as our life-giving Mythic Mother. You’ll watch a new video that the Girl Child Long Walk project co-created with WomanSpirit Reclamation adapted from a newly released book by Patricia Reilly, hear from the three creators of the video, and have a chance to join in the discussion during this conversation about Eve.

In Her Own Words: A Calabash of Cowries with Luisah Teish

Join us in conversation with Luisah Teish, a writer and performer of sacred myth and folklore from the African diaspora. She will read and share excerpts from her new book A Calabash of Cowries: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times, a collection of tales featuring the Orishas, the wonders of the natural world, and ancient understandings of the mother.

Readers of all cultures will discover in these retellings of traditional tales a resource that illuminates the mythic and the real, the ancient past and the emerging present. Through her weaving of traditional folk tales with her own rich prose and poetry, she offers spiritual wisdom and cultural celebration through stories that have and will continue to endure the test of time. Come encounter the visions of mother from the African diaspora.
